Our Lady of Lourdes

On Monday of this week the Church recalls the first of the eighteen apparitions of Our Lady to St Bernadette. Mass on Monday will be in honour of Our Lady on the 161st anniversary of the apparitions.

Each year, the local Bishop for Lourdes proposes a pastoral theme for pilgrims, this year he has suggested a Year for the Poor. This will be an occasion to follow the way of St Bernadette; to die to our old self and discover true life, true happiness which can only be found in Christ.

For St Bernadette and all pilgrims, we carry with us “luggage” some of which is useful and some of which is unnecessary. To return home is to be changed “uncluttered” from the unnecessary baggage. The free Lourdes app gives a history of the shrine, news, the facility to send a prayer and light a candle and access the live webcams around the shrine.
