Prayer Service for the Season of Creation
1st September to 4th October 2016 marks the Season of Creation. Pope Francis has encouraged us to pray for creation, to work to diminish the effect of humanity on the environment and to help reduce the effect we have on global warming. His encyclical ‘Laudato Si’ draws on the words of the beautiful Canticle of St Francis of Assisi, reminding us that our common home should be looked on as ‘a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us’.
Further, he suggests that we have ‘come to regard ourselves as lords and masters, entitled to plunder her at will.’
Our service should be one of reflective contemplation, calling us to see how we can reduce the effect of our activity on the environment.
